Chasing swell, wind, tide and the sun! For surfers the Otago region is as varied as anywhere in the world! It has beaches, reefs and points which pick up swells from the north, east and south. Consistent swells from these directions can arrive through all seasons. Winter and spring is a great time to surf with a good coldwater wetsuit, summer through autumn can be consistent and warm. It is still possible to find a beach all to yourself and there is plenty of options for friendly confidence building waves for beginners, to big challenging waves for experts! Hitting the road south into the wild and exposed southern coast or across the mighty Southern Alps to the West Coast or north Otago to Canterbury and Marlborough opens up endless options for exploring. For non-surfing travelers, partners and friends, there is so much to enjoy from stunning beaches, scenic attractions, galleries, wildlife viewing and lots of amazing photo opportunities along the way!
